Boakye Gyan Denies Plotting Counter June 4 Celebrations

A member of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council, (ARFC) Major Boakye Gyan has denied being part of any activity to counter the commemoration of the June 4 and May 15 uprising. The office of former President Rawlings has noted a group of persons are going round the country misinforming followers of the ideals of Mr. Rawlings and that they are organizing events marking the May 15 revolt as well as the June 4 uprising. The statement said President Rawlings has not given his blessing to such arrangements. A publication by the Republic Newspaper mentions Boakye Gyan, Kojo Tsikata and some government officials as those planning the supposed event. However, in an interview with XYZ News, Mr. Boakye Gyan denied being part of any such plan. It is a false publication, as far as I am concerned I am not involved with any people and I have no knowledge of any group of people organizing an event on May 15 and June 4 to counter anything Boakye Gyan said. He added that it is pure speculation and a fabrication. I have never encouraged the celebration of June 4 what I have always asked for is a commemoration of the people who died both for and against. Major Boakye Gyan also described recent attempts to patch up former President Rawlings and President Mills ahead of the December polls as commendable. In principle I am for anybody wanting to settle any dispute between any two persons or group of persons of any nature and if what is being reported is true it can only be commended.
