The Convention People�s Party (CPP), is set for its national congress, slated for Saturday, May 12, at the Essipong Stadium in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis, in the Western Region. This will make it the fourth party to elect its flagbearer ahead of the crucial December polls. The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Peoples' National Convention (PNC) have all elected their presidential candidates. XYZ News� Western regional correspondent, Emmanuel Ohene Gyan, reports that over 2,000 delegates would take part in the election of the party�s flagbearer for election 2012. Participants would include 110 regional executives, more than 200 national executives as well as shadow ministers of the party. He added that preparations at the Essipong Stadium were complete while accommodation and accreditation for the delegates and journalists were ready. Communication Director of the CPP, Nii Armah Akomfrah, in an interview with XYZ News assured the country of a peaceful congress, saying �we will come out of congress as a unified party fighting for one purpose.� He called on the delegates to ensure that the CPP comes out of congress as a strong body ready to take up the reins of government. Bright Akwetey, a lawyer and Abu Sakara are the two contestants in the race for the party's flagbearership. Mr. Akwetey in an interview with XYZ News said he is confident of emerging as the flagbearer of the party after Saturday�s congress. According to him, the delegates are convinced that he is the man who can make a difference if elected as president of the country. Meanwhile, Dr. Sakara who has been endorsed by a member of the Council of Elders of the CPP, F.A Jantuah, also told XYZ News that the delegates of the party will make a wise decision by electing him as the man to lead the party to victory in the 2012 elections.
