CPP Is A Political Vehicle That Needs Serious Maintenance

Political scientist and senior fellow with the Institute of Democratic Governance, IDEG, Kwasi Jonah, says the CPP must use Saturdays congress for serious stock taking and deeper reflection on continuous decline of the partys fortunes rather than just electing a flagbearer to contest the December polls. The CPP will today holds its national congress at Essipong in the Western region with the flagbearer tie between lawyer Bright Akwettey and 2008 running mate of the party, Dr. Abu Sakara. Mr. Jonah told XYZ News the party needs a leader who will urgently salvage the party from sinking further. There was a time when they had several seats in the Ghana parliament. Today they have only one. Quite recently Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom and his followers left the party reducing their numbers even further. He said per the partys performance in the 2008 elections; where they obtained a little over one percent, one can clearly state that it is not a party ready to win an election, adding whoever gets elected the person will have a lot of work to do. [The CPP] is a political vehicle that is in serious need of maintenance. Kwesi Jonah told XYZ News he has no qualms about the competence of the two competing candidates but urged them to be mindful of the task ahead in increasing the partys fortunes in the December polls. He is rooting for Dr. Abu Sakara, saying if he gets the ticket, there will be a lot that he could bring to bear on the fortunes of the party.
