NPP Logo Not Registered

It appears the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not the only political party that is vulnerable to controversies over the registration and possible ownership of its logo, as records at the Copyrights office indicate that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has also not registered its logo as a party with the office. Mrs. Rawlings, through her lawyers, has threatened to prevent the NDC from using the current logo of the party as she claims ownership of it. In an interview, the principal attorney at the Copyrights Office, Nana Yaa Attefuah told XYZ News, though registration of intellectual property such as logos are important, it is not mandatory in the laws of Ghana. She revealed that the NPP are yet register their logo: From our records at the Copyright office, I dont have any record to the effect that the NPP has registered its logo. She also confirmed that the NDC logo was registered in the name of the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings. But a leading member of the NPP, Haruna Esseku, has told XYZ News the NPP has been registered as a party with its logo at the Electoral Commission and that is what matters. He said the decision as to the ownership of any particular logo should be left to the lawyers and the judicial system.
