PHOTO: NDC Parliamentary Candidate Ejected From His House

THE NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Asokwa, Charles Kojo Obeng, was yesterday forcibly ejected from his rented house at Asokwa by his landlord, following a court order. Obeng was ejected with his family. The landlord, whose name was given as Nana Boakye Panin, told DAILY GUIDE that Obeng had not paid rent for 10 years, adding that attempts to retrieve the money had proved futile so he sought a court order to throw him out. The landlord alleged that the NDC candidate, who was occupying a flat in the house with his family, illegally acted as the landlord and rented out four rooms in the boys quarters to some persons without informing him (the landlord) and pocketed the money. The landlord said anytime he tried collecting his money, Obeng told him lies so he was left with no option but to send the matter to court which eventually gave an order for Obeng to be kicked out of the house. It was a pathetic scene when DAILY GUIDE visited the Asokwa home of the NDC kingpin near the Amissah Hotel around 7:30am on Monday. Mr. Obeng, together with his family and household items, had been thrown out on the streets. Armed police personnel from the Buffalo Unit at the Central Police Station in Kumasi were seen busily making sure that items that belonged to the NDC candidate were removed from the house. Mattresses, television sets, refrigerators, pestle, cooking utensils, clothing, assortment of shoes, chairs, tables, buckets among other items belonging to the NDC man were dumped on the streets. A dejected-looking Mr. Obeng, who was wearing a white shirt and black trousers, and his children were seen moving to and from the house, making sure that they left no valuable items behind. The landlord, Nana Boakye, was also seen standing in front of the house that is directly opposite his. Nana said the court had also ordered Mr Obeng to return the monies that he collected from the four people that he rented the rooms in the boys quarters to, immediately. He disclosed that the court again ruled that the four persons should be ejected because Mr Obeng did not have the right to rent out the rooms to them. After the armed policemen, numbering about eight had made sure that everything belonging to the NDC candidate had been removed from the house, they locked the doors to the house and left the scene with the landlord. Mr. Obeng later on brought a Kia truck with registration number AS 7766-10 to the scene to transport his items and left the place with his daughters.
