Ken Agyapong's Treason Case Adjourned Again

Lawyers for the Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyapong have accused the Attorney Generals Department of deliberately dragging his case in order to frustrate their client. The high court Wednesday afternoon adjourned the case at the instance of the prosecution. Mr Agyapong is facing trial for allegedly making genocidal comments on his radio station. A member of his legal team, Ayikoi Otoo, insists the case against his client has no merit and must be dismissed by the court. The Chief State Prosecutor, Anthony Wiredu, however challenged the claim saying the actual merit of the case are yet to be heard by the court. The Attorney General on told Accra Fast Track High Court that a motion of certiorari has been filed at the Supreme Court seeking to quash the bail granted to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin North, scheduled for June 19. Mr Anthony Rexford Wiredu, Chief State Attorney told the court: the State has filed a motion of notice seeking judicial review on the bail on May 22, and requested that the court grant them three weeks adjournment. However, the court presided over by Mr Justice Charles Quist upheld the prayer of the defense and ruled that the application filed by the State is an interlocutory application and therefore, does not mean the proceedings before this court should stop. This is the second time Mr Agyepongs case has been adjourned after the high failed to uphold treason charges which were initially proffered against him by the state. He will again appear before the high court on the 6th of July 2012.
