We Have No Capacity To Meddle In Woyome Case - NDC Lawyers

An aide to businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has taken former Attorney General, Martin Amidu, to the cleaners following the latters accusations that some members of the NDC legal team are working against the advancement in the case of brought against Mr, Woyome. According to Kwame Tawiah, no known NDC lawyer is a member of the legal team working for Mr. Woyome and that if Mr Amidu did not have any malicious intentions; he would have prosecuted the case during his time in office. A statement released by Mr. Amidu on Wednesday said, some members of the "so called NDC legal team" are meddling in the affairs of the Attorney Generals department to undermine the prosecution of Alfred Agbesi Woyome on the GHS 51 million judgment debt paid to him by false pretenses. But reacting to the accusation on Radio XYZ 93.1 FMs current affairs programme Whats New, Mr Tawia said: Ask Mr Martin Amidu; he was in the AGs Department for 10 months. Again find out from Mr. Martin Amidu; he ordered his office to strike the case out of court. Mr Amidu had all the time under the sun to prosecute. He further accused Mr. Amidu of being part of a conspiracy geared towards derailing the chances of Mr. Woyome at a fair trial. He is part of the conspiracy group, Mr. Tawiah alleged, adding we dont have any member of the NDC who is a lawyer who is a part of our criminal case. Meanwhile, some members of the NDC legal team have debunked the assertion that they are meddling in the trying of Mr. Woyome. Speaking to Abraham Asare on Whats New, Lawyer Abraham Amaliba explained that the team is purely a voluntary association of lawyers who believe in the ideology of the NDC and our core mission is to provide legal explanations to matters that affect the NDC. He said the team does not have any contact with the office of the AG or the government as is being bundied even though he admits that the team works closely with the party on issues that have legal undertones and repercussions. If the perception is that the matter is not being handled properly, we as NDC lawyers have no capacity to meddle or intervene in matters such as that. No! Lawyer Amaliba however indicated that the pressure being put on the AG is unreasonable and that the AG is taking its time to undertake due diligence before fully prosecuting the matter. It is a concern for all of us that the AG is perceived to be losing cases and is perceived to be slow but we also need to recognize that justice hurried is justice buried. This hypocrisy would not work. Another member of the team, David Annan has also indicated that even though the NDC Legal Team offers legal counsel to the party, it has not interfered in the duties of the AG Department nor benefitted from the department. I have never, never been awarded any case for commercial profit from the AGs Department, neither have I ever actually asked for any case to be given me.
