Prez Mills Can Be Impeached

The former Attorney General and Minister for Justice under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Nii Ayikoi Otoo has condemned governments decision not to sell the No. 2 Mungo Street Ridge property to the Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey and says the President and his Vice can be impeached for going against the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court presided over by Justice William Atuguba on Tuesday ruled that Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey has the right to occupy the residence which he bought. The Court also stated the former Tourism Minister did not abuse any law of the land by purchasing the house. The Supreme Court in its ruling also stated that the suit against Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey does not border on conflict of interest and should have been taken to the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for proper interpretation. But a statement from government on Thursday stated that in the Supreme interest of the people of Ghana, and taking cognizance of the Supreme Court ruling in the matter of Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lampteys immoral acquisition of a State Property he occupied as a Minister of State, cabinet at its sitting today, Thursday, May 24, 2012, has decided NOT to sell the said property. Speaking in an interview on XYZ News, Mr Ayikoi Otoo said government's decision is contemptuous of the Supreme Court and an affront to the rule of law. He said the position of government in going against an order of the highest court of the land can prepare the grounds for the removal of both President Mills and Vice President John Dramani Mahama from office. He added that Mr Obetsebi Lamptey has every right to occupy the house since the court has given him the authority to do so. Meanwhile, Communications Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho has told XYZ News that the decision by cabinet was taken with the interest of Ghanaians at heart. According to him, the decision by the NPP Chairman to purchase the building was morally wrong.
