Plot Against Rawlingses Thickens

A National Security-sponsored congress of cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) scheduled to come off tomorrow, May 26, 2012, in Accra, is one of the strings of machinations lined up to decapitate the Rawlingses in the run-up to the forthcoming December polls, DAILY GUIDE has gathered from Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) sources. Documents regarding the said congress billed to take place at the Institute of Local Government at Madina, Accra, barring unforeseen alterations, point at a massive state sponsorship of the programme. If the state funding of the congress is surprising, its agenda of plucking the feathers of the Rawlingses, who gave birth to the cadre concept and its nurturing, is overwhelming in its irony. Should the plan succeed, it would have added a feather to the cap of the National Security apparatus for its ability to mend the broken front of the cadres and get them to turn their guns against the Rawlingses. Besides targeting former President Jerry John Rawlings and his spouse Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the cadres would undertake a smear campaign against the associates of the Rawlingses in whatever way possible. In order to achieve the political goal, a top official of the Office of the President has been asked to bring together the previously splintered cadre groupings. One of such groups, The Forum, is expected to join hands with the United Cadre Front, headed by Kofi Portuphy, National Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), a precondition for all the financial demands being put forth by the cadres. One of the arrangements on the table is the bussing of cadres, old and new, from all parts of the country to Accra to partake in the deliberation on how to break the political spine of the Rawlingses. Scouts are already in the regions recruiting willing hearts who would be dubbed cadres to swell the numbers of those turning up for the cadre congress. The NADMO is particularly expected to play a crucial role in the scheme of things. Relief materials such as rice, sugar, maize, cooking oil and a large stock in the state warehouses would be lavishly doled out to hungry mouths for the mission. The former first couple has suffered motley political flocking at the hands of the leadership of the party it founded and nurtured in a manner which has attracted various interpretations. Matters got to a head during the Sunyani congress of the party when Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlingss bid to lead the party in the 2012 presidential election suffered what turned out to be a deliberate scheme to edge her out. The subsequent days since then have been inundated with the trading of charges between party personalities who adored the family a few years ago. The planned cadre congress would be watched closely for its output towards weakening the Rawlingses to make them irrelevant in local politics, with particular reference to the NDC.
