NDC Executives Threaten Defect

TROUBLE SEEMS to be brewing in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the New Juaben South constituency of the Eastern region as some branch executive members and foot-soldiers there have threatened to defect to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). The group numbering about 50 had initially decided to voice out their intention on a local radio station at Koforidua but later decided to issue a statement to the party hierarchy in the region and Accra. DAILY GUIDE sources say the branch executive members are angry because of the way party leaders in the region and the constituency have been mistreating them. According to them, they have been completely neglected while the big people are enjoying. They explained that since their party came to power they have never received any support to earn a living for themselves. They specifically mentioned the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben, Alex Asamoah as one person who had not helped their cause alleging that anytime they approach him for assistance, they dont get it. During the recent biometric registration exercise, those who served as party agents at the registration centers were given just GH5 a day even though their party is in power, they said. We were completely shocked and even decided to reject the money because we thought the party did not care about us, they added. They explained that even if the party was giving them that amount, the MCE could have supported them with some extra money to encourage them to sacrifice for the party. We have seen that leaders of the party are only thinking about their welfare and not that of the foot-soldiers so we will also advise ourselves. The MCE in reaction to the allegations said it was not true that he was not supporting party people in the constituency. According to him, he personally gave some money towards monitoring of the biometric registration exercise and has also been assisting party members who come to him with their needs.
