Traditional Chiefs Warn Rawlings: No June 4th In Aflao

Peacefmonline can confirm that there are attempts to scuttle the planned celebration of the 33rd Anniversary of the June 4th uprising scheduled for the Aflao Victoria Park in the Volta Region... ...as the Chiefs, Council of Elders and people in the area have registered their disapproval of and objection to the choice of Aflao as the venue. Mr Rawlings, who is currently in Istanbul, Turkey to participate in a watershed meeting on the final stages of the transitional process in Somalia, is expected to address the gathering. But a strongly-worded letter signed by three eminent statesman from the area; Torgbui Nyueimedzi Anubo IV, Senior Divisional Chief of Aflao Traditional Area, Prof Ernest Dumoh, Chairman, Aflao Council of Elders and Christian Yevunya, Chairman Aflao Youth Association, say they are apprehensive of and feel uncomfortable that the Aflao Traditional Area is to be used as a platform for staging a political contest. They have thus disassociated themselves from the celebrations and its ramifications. A copy of a letter in possession of Peacefmonline, also makes a passionate appeal to the security agencies to withdraw any endorsement of the celebration taking place in Aflao. We strongly advise that the venue for the celebration be changed from Aflao to any location outside the traditional area, the statement read. Below is a copy of the letter "banning" the former President from holding this year's June 4th celebration in Aflao.
