Osu Elders: We've Distanced Ourselves From Craze For Government Lands

Nuumo Gbelenfo III, Gua Wulomo of Osu and Pokuase, says the Osu stool and elders have distanced themselves from the recent craze for government lands. The wulomo said elders and people of Osu had realized that a group of miscreants were holding themselves as owners of lands leased to government. He mentioned that one Nii Brown is alleged to be leading the current crusade, saying his family owned the Osu lands. The Gua wulomo explained that Osu has no family lands but only stool lands. He said most lands leased to government were for 50-year duration. When the duration expires government ought to meet with the custodians of the said lands to come to fresh terms as to whether or not it wants to continue its tenancy. He disclosed that Nii Brown only spoke to him on phone but declined several invitations to meet him. Meanwhile police sources are unable to confirm whether or not there has been an official complaint by any aggrieved person. When Daily Guide visited the headquarters of the Immigration Service, there were no sign of any red ink inscription as reports sought to portray, but a vast land opposite the GIS premises, which had been fenced for construction, had some initials and telephone numbers of the so-called owners. Sources say the claimant, Nii Brown alleged that his family name Ankrah was corrupted by the colonial masters, an allegation that was denied by Nuumo Gbelenfo.
