"Gov�t Is Not Against Smale Scall Mining" � Victor Smith

The Eastern Regional Minister, Victor smith has expressed dismay at the continuous gross disregard to laid down rules and procedures in engaging in small scale mining. He said most worrying of such acitivities is that perpertrators completely disregard the harmful effect their activities have on the environment, economic and social infrastructure and thereby putting many lives in danger. The minister�s comment was targeted at the small scale mining sites cited very close to the Nkawkaw New Eberim road. He indicated that, government was not against small scale mining, but the refusal of those involved to obtain the right permission to operate and to enable relevant agencies to monitor and regulate their activities to mitigate environmental degradation calls for great concern. He warned collaborators of such people that is making the government fight against the menance difficult to advice themselves before the law catches up with them nothing that the effect on the environment is so gravious expecially with agric production and provision of potable water. The minister promised that the law will be applied to the latter to anybody found culpable no matter the person�s status in society.
