Court Acquits Amina; The "Yutong Bus Rape" Claimant

Peacefmonline.com can confirm that an Accra High Court on Monday quashed the case in which Amina Mohammed, the lady at the centre of the infamous highway robbery and alleged mass rape of passengers on a Tamale bound Yutong bus was standing trial, by acquitting and discharging her. The court struck out the case for lack of evidence. Amina grabbed the headlines nearly two years ago after alleging that a mass rape of passengers on board a Tamale bound Yutong bus occured at Kubiase, near Kintampo. She claimed the robbers ordered the male passengers to rape their female counterparts. But the police, after some investigations, confirmed the armed robbery incident but denied the rape angle to it. She was thus arrested in October 2010 in the wake of the incident and tried on two counts of causing fear and panic contrary to Section 208 of the Criminal Code, and deceit of a public officer. According to the lead investigator for the case, Cpl. Issah Mohammed, Aminas story is a cock and bull one. However, nearly a year into the trial of Amina Mohammed, the judge, on Monday, upheld an application of no case brought by her lawyers by Prof Ken Attafuah. More soon...
