Ghana striker Emmanuel Clottey has lost his mother who died last Thursday after a short illness.
The Berekum Chelsea ace, who was on international duty in Zambia, was only told of the bad news on Saturday after the 1-0 defeat in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The 24-year-old was an unused substitute against the Chipolopolo at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
He arrived home on Monday night together with his international team mates.
A statement issued by Berekum Chelsea club president Emmanuel Kyeremeh on their website (berekumchelsea.com) read: The club wish to send our condolences to striker Emmanuel Clottey whose mother passed away last Thursday.
This is a tough time for him but we know he can cope with this big loss.
Im telling Emmanuel (Clottey) that he has our big support and sympathies. We pray to God for the soul of his mother.
Clottey is the leading scorer in the 2012 CAF Champions League with five goals.
