The New Patriotic Party, (NPP) has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to as a matter of urgency make public the health status of President Mills despite concerns raised by a section of the political divide that it is not a relevant issue. Latest rumours of President Mills� death, resurfaced on social media website, Facebook last Friday. The President who left for the United States of America Saturday night for a medical care said he was very strong and was only going for a check-up with his doctors. The NPP has, in the past, questioned the health status of the president, demanding that he makes his health records available for public scrutiny. Speaking to XYZ News, NPP Chairman for the Greater Accra region, Ishmael Ashittey said if a President of a nation is not well, it can affect his mental capacity and delivery. �The President himself has indicated to us that he is not well. He is saying that he is going to the USA for a checkup, if it is an ordinary checkup then we have very good doctors and hospitals here� Mr. Ashittey noted. He added that �we must be really concerned about the health of our President, he is the person who has to take decisions and therefore it is not out of place for someone to think that the President is not healthy and we must know the health status of our President�. Meanwhile, an Executive of the Ghana Medical Association has expressed strong reservations about President Mills� decision to travel abroad for a medical check -up. The General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr Frank Siribour in an interview with XYZ News said the development is an indictment on the President and all other political leaders for lacking trust in local health professionals. He said this demonstrates politicians have failed to effectively develop better health care system in the country. Dr Siribour added that a medical board must refer cases abroad if local medical professionals are unable to provide the necessary care and says he doubts if it was done in the case of President Mills.
