THE AVENOR-AVE constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has commended the Member of Parliament for the area, Edward Doe Adjaho for his immense contribution towards the development of the Akatsi district. Adjaho, who is also the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament was particularly praised for helping to bring education, electricity, roads, sports, water, health, sanitation, agriculture as well as human resource development among others to the area. At a news conference in Akatsi addressed by Avenor-Ave Constituency Secretary, Daniel Dagba to mark the 20th Anniversary of NDC, the party further eulogized Adjaho for enhancing the image of the district with his exemplary leadership. The party also used the occasion to debunk assertions by the Avenor-Ave parliamentary candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, who reportedly stated at a news conference that Adjaho and the ruling party did not deserve re-election because they had not done much for the district. The event was graced by the Akatsi District Chief Executive (DCE), Peter Nortsu-Kotoe. Mr. Dagba said the Mills administration �anchored by our indefatigable Hon. Doe Adjaho and the Akatsi District Assembly has achieved a lot.� �Our achievement in the education sector for the past three years is unprecedented. The government policy of removal of schools under trees was equally extended to our district and we benefitted with thirteen new classroom blocks with ancillary facilities across the district from the GETfund,� Dagba pointed out. Among the beneficiary schools were the Akatsi College of Education Practice School Primary and Junior High School which had a 12-unit classroom block and another 12-unit classroom block for AVESCO. Others which benefitted from 6-unit classroom blocks, according to Dagba, included the Momone, Avadre and Wlitey basic schools among others. He added that 113 teacher trainees were being sponsored at the College of Education to be retained in the district upon completion of their various courses of study. On sports and games, Dagba indicated the Akatsi District Assembly in collaboration with Adjaho, donated over 50 jerseys and footballs to some second division football clubs and educational institutions in the district. Touching on roads and highways, he said 24 feeder roads have been rehabilitated since 2009 including the Adrakpo junction through Avedo to Dagbamate. With regards to water, health and sanitation; he indicated that 60 boreholes were drilled across the district, adding that guinea worm disease is now the thing of the past. The rest included a mothers� lodge constructed by Adjaho for the Akatsi District Hospital as well as a nurses quarters at Wute and Avenorpedo. On energy, Dagba said 232 communities have been connected to the national grid within the last three years. This, he mentioned was made possible by �our Hon. Doe Adjaho.� Speaking on human resource development, Dagba disclosed that Adjaho had spent about GH�66,289.57 to sponsor students at various institutions of learning with the district assembly also spending GH�103,184.70 for the same purpose.
