'Opoosini'

Commissioner of Police COP Alhaji Hamidu Mahamahs advice to the general peace officers was perfect and timely looking at the rate of crime involved by his junior officers. Recently, reports has it that both junior and senior officers in the blue uniform have been caught in various crimes such as rape, illegal lands sales, fraudulent recruitment into the police service, extortion of money from commercial car drivers, wrongful arrest and shielding of crime suspects. All these and many more criminal activities police officers are trained to refrain from but rather are heavily involved in them calls for much concern from the public whom they are to serve and protect. For instance, quite recently reports had it that some constables were arrested whiles carrying out their wicked operations as armed robbers the main enemies of the citizenry that they are to arrest, prosecute and keep them out from the system. Apart from that, what took place at Odododiodoo constituency where a police officer was accused for releasing suspected gangs, goons and hoodlums for causing disturbances before during and after the biometric voter register there was very bad about the police service. However I am convinced that in all these complaints the police commissioner in charge of human resources through the passing out parade of the 232 general constables into main stream policing at Patase in Ashanti Region gave that timely advice to his colleague peace officers. That was fine; he advised them to stay neutral before, during and after the upcoming general elections. Aside that, he also warned them against other criminal acts which was not mentioned but the public has been complaining seriously about. Commissioner of Police failed to remind the newly constables that it was wrong to turn their charge offices into law courts where many of his junior officers instead of charging suspects before court rather collect bribes and twist facts to indict complainers. Alhaji Hamidu Mahamah, also failed to warned his officers that the blue uniform service is not a baby sitting service where most of them have recently been caught with girls below the ages of eighteen sitting on their laps whiles they play the adult game with them. By the way, I must congratulate him for the powerful statement he made which has revived the true spirit of policing in his officers and men that I believe will go down to every level of the service. Commissioner of Police COP Alhaji Hamidu Mahamah, is a fine peace officer who holds the people he is to serve and protect in high esteem. During his time as the deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander when I was a junior reporter with the Ghanaian Chronicle at Koforidua, he mapped out strategies which saw his officers and men flushing out armed robbers from the region. During his time, the Suhum, Nsawam to Nkawkaw highway robbery was checked onetime as the famous Suhum battle between police and armed robbers was recorded. Leading a team of officers, upon tip off chased and killed three armed robbers onboard a stolen car at Suhum who had succeeded in robbing a victim and were escaping with their loot. Therefore having risen to higher rank in the service means he knows much about the service and his advice should not be treated as passive statement. Yes the service is purging itself of so many crimes but the more higher officers such as the Inspector General of Police [IGP] Paul Tawiah Quaye and COP Alhaji Hamidu Mahamah tries to do, the more the bad nuts keep on spoiling the good nuts. Anyway the OPOOSINIpoliceman has spoken so let us all put our hands to the wheel to ensure its smooth rolling.
