Bawumia Wind Sweeps Mamprugu As NDC Chairmen Defect In Droves

NPP Running Mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is on a nine-day tour in his native Mamprugu area but before votes are cast on December 7 to determine who will be the President for the next four years, indications are that his tour has been a success as notable bigwigs of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have defected to the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) in droves. Notable defectors included Mahama Asibi a former NDC Zonal in Sakogu Town in the Nalerigu Gambaga Constituency, Abdul Rahman NDC Chairman for Dibisi in the Walewale Constituency, Mallam Dendere NDC Chairman at Bimbini, a settler community in the Walewale Constituency, and Seidu Yakubu NDC Chair Bulbia. Among the reasons they cited for their defection from the NDC were lack of developmental projects in their communities over the last three years, personal attributes of Dr. Bawumia among others. One of them, Abdul Rahman gave back an NDC key holder to symbolically indicate that he had nothing to do with them again. Dr. Bawumia is touring the three constituencies in Mamprugu in the Northern Region with a number of eminent NPP personalities including the Former Vice President, Alhajii Aliu Mahama, Mr. Ben Bukari Salifu, Former Northern Regional Minister, Shiek T.D Damba, National Vice-Chairman of the NPP, Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson to Nana Akufo-Addo, Anthony Karbo, NPP National Youth Organizer, Madam Rita Asobayere, former National Womens Organizer of the NPP among others. The team is currently in the Yagaba-Kubore constituency popularly known as Overseas'. Meanwhile Dr. Bawumia speaking at Bulbia in the Walewale Constituency, has bemoaned the current state of various social interventions instituted by the NPP to bring relieve to Ghanaians. While addressing the Chief and elders of the community as well as hundreds of indigenes and inhabitants of the community Dr. Bawumia said when we vote for a government, we all expect the government to do well to lessen our hardships. But what do we see this time? We have a government that is rather piling unto our hardships. Under the NPP we introduced various programmes like the NHIS, NYEP, School Feeding etc. to bring relieve and improve the lives of Ghanaians but lets ask ourselves what is the current state of these programmes? They have all been mismanaged and are collapsing and the Ghanaian who was supposed to enjoy the benefits of these interventions is suffering. Dr. Bawumia noted that the social intervention programmes instituted by the NPP benefitted Ghanaians across board and that they should have been improved for more and more Ghanaians to enjoy the benefits of such interventions and for those programmes to deliver better services. Dr. Bawumia pledged that when elected, Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP would work in the interest of all Ghanaians. He stated that the NPP would not only improve the social interventions it introduced between 2001 and 2008 but introduce more programmes and policies to help ameliorate see to the wellbeing of the impoverished sections of the nation.
