UPDATED: 3 Dead, 25 Seriously Injured In Axim Fire Outbreak

Three (3) people were charred beyond recognition whiles more than twenty (20) sustained various degree of burns at Axim Akyenmu in the Western Region due to a fire outbreak at the premix fuel station near the Axim beach on Friday morning. Though the cause of the fire outbreak is not yet known, PeaceFM's Western Region correspondent, Appiah Dankwa, reports that there is suspicion it might have been caused by the explosion of a generator used to pump premix fuel during a power outage. According to him, the incident occured when there was an interruption in power supply as a pre-mix fuel tanker was in the process of off-loading fuel for the fisher folks. The fire outbreak caused a stampede at the beach with people running helter-skelter for dear lives. Most of the injured were rushed to the Axim General Hospital for treatment, but latest reports say, health officials are overwhelmed by the numbers and have requested the immediate referral of some of the victims to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.
