Nana Konadu Rawlings Appears In Court...

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, a former First Lady and President of 31st December Womens Movement on Monday appeared at the Financial Division of the High Court following a suit filed against the Movement over ownership of a property located at North Ridge. The management of Wassef Sadallah Darkwah Company Limited had dragged the Movement to court over wrongfully occupation of its property being used as an office at North Ridge. The company is seeking a declaration that the defendants occupation at Number 16, North Ridge Residential area was wrongful, and an order for immediate re-occupation or possession of the property from the defendant. In addition, the company is seeking revenue by way of rent, if it had rented the property to a third party from August 1979 to final date that judgment would be delivered. The plaintiff is also seeking interest on the revenue on the current prevailing bank rate. It contended that the property in question was acquired from one Jonathan Kojo Chinebrah by way of assignment on January 19, 1978, however, it was confiscated by the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) Government on January 5, 1993. The plaintiff said on September 24, 1997 the Government ordered that the property seized should be released to them but the Movement took possession and refused to hand over. When the case was called, Mr Kofi Somuah, a lawyer who represented the Movement said after reading through the pleadings, he needed time to amend his defence. Mr Thaddeus Sory, Counsel for the company did not object, saying they wanted the matter to be settled amicably.
