Greater Accra regional chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Joseph Ade Coker is thankful to Ghanaians for coming out in their numbers to give president John Evans Atta Mills a rousing welcome on his return from a medical check-up in America. Mr. Ade Coker says the love revealed by the enthusiastic crowd that besieged the Kotoka International Airport shows the level at which Ghanaians have come to accept the president. Hundreds of party supporters as well as party bigwigs and government officials yesterday thronged the Kotoka International Airport to welcome the president who has been out on a routine medical check-up. The supporters mobbed the president when he touched down, singing and dancing with brass band music loud in praise of the president. But a governance expert Kwasi Jonah has criticized the busing of supporters to welcome the president. He is of the view that the move evoked memories of the bad old days of authoritarian leadership in Africa. But the Greater Accra Chairman of the NDC disagrees, saying it was necessary to adore the president considering the circumstances under which he left the country. ��I will like to take this opportunity to thank the many Ghanaians who came to the airport yesterday to show some love to the president. We all recall the circumstances under which he left the country so for me it was heartwarming��. �� It was necessary because even before he arrived in the United States, four hours into his flight, people started speculating that he�s in coma and has died on the plane��. Mr. Ade Coker is optimistic yesterday�s show of support will inure to the benefit of the NDC in the December polls. ��Of late people have been saying that the NDC is divided, so when we have functions like this and people come on their own accord and genuinely it sends signals down to our other members who are sitting on the bench to realize that it�s about time we come together as one family��. For his part, the mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije said his highest point at yesterday�s event was president Mills� show of appreciation to all who prayed for him.
