Some youth and opinion leaders of Binduri in the Upper East Region have warned government to desist from relocating the district capital of the newly-created Bindiru District to Bazua.
According to them, the Legislative Instrument (L.I.) established the new district capital at Binduri, adding that any attempt to disregard the L.I. could bring chaos in the area.
Binduri, which was formerly under the Bawku Municipal Assembly, is one of the new districts that were recently created by government.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on the theme �Siting of the Headquarters of Binduri District Assembly-Some Injustice And Illegality�, Moses Ali Samuel, a spokesperson of the Binduri youth, said government would have itself to blame if it went ahead to relocate the district capital.
He accused some elements from the Bazua area, led by the Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo and his Deputy, Lucy Awuni, of initiating attempts to illegally take the district capital to Bazua.
Ali Samuel said, �We the peace loving citizens of Binduri and the several surrounding communities wish to publicly declare our intention to unrelentingly resist any attempts to take the district capital status away from Binduri�.
He said they would use any means possible within the ambit of the law to ensure that their rights and what was due them was not trampled upon with impunity. Ali Samuel said, �The struggle for justice, unity, peace and development in diversity has just begun�.
He therefore called on the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, and for that matter the Presidency, to call to order all the people who were directly or indirectly seeking to contravene the L.I so as to prevent any violence in the newly-created district.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has denied that government had changed Binduri as the capital for the Binduri District. He has therefore assured the people that Binduri still remained the district capital as gazetted.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo said apart from two of the districts which had generated some misunderstanding, the inauguration of the other 44 districts will go ahead as scheduled on Thursday.
