PHOTO: Gov't Taskforce Locks Up Illegal Shops In Accra

The special task force set up by the government to flush out illegal foreign retailers in Ghana has so far closed down eight shops at Zongo Lane in Accra. The shops mostly belong to some Chinese retailers in the country. The task force is currently moving round the markets in the Central Business District to lock up shops of recalcitrant foreigners doing retail business in the country. The task force will move its distress action to Spintex and other parts of the capital city. XYZ News reporter Elvis Adjietey who is moving with the task force stated that most of the shops had already been closed before the task force arrived. According to him, additional pad locks are added to the already locked shops with a notice left asking the owners to report at the Trade Ministry to comply with its rules. The action by the task force coincides with a visit by a fact finding committee from the ECOWAS Parliament to look into complaints made by some Nigerian traders that they are the main targets of the exercise.
