Two ladies who attempted to smuggle dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp to a friend serving jail term at the Nsawam Medium Prisons have been arrested by the Nsawam District Police Command. The suspects, Mary Samani 23, and Vivian Horsu 30, allegedly stashed the dried leaves in six medium-sized tins of Pomo Tomato Paste, and presented them as parcel to their friend, Sulemana Addo, who is serving a jail term for murder. Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, the Nsawam District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Buabeng, said the two women were arrested around 6:15pm at the prisons yard on Wednesday evening. The two told security personnel at the Nsawam Medium Prisons that they were there to present the items to their friend, Sulemana Addo, to use in preparing his meals. Upon a routine check, the officers detected that a tin of tomato paste weighed heavier than the normal medium-sized tin sold on the market. This aroused the suspicion of the prison officers who opened one of the tins of tomato paste to verify the content, and discovered that it was stocked with some dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, compressed and well sealed. The two were immediately handed over to the police for investigations. Chief Superintendent Buabeng said the two would be put before court today for police to continue with their investigations.
