As the controversy surrounding the $1.5 billion African Automobile Limited (AAL) judgment debt heats up, the NDC Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, George Arthur has said the NPP is very lucky that it is President Mills who is power now and not former President Rawlings. According to Mr. Arthur, if the former President was the one in charge, officials of the NPP would have been jailed for the gargantuan debt they have created in the AAL Galloper deal. Speaking on Adom FM�s political show, Dea Me Hunu Wednesday, the MP expressed his shock at the NPP for blaming the NDC government for wrong doing in the Galloper deal even though they (NPP) maliciously refused to oblige the terms of the contract thereby attracting an interest accruing to the tune of $1.5billion. Mr. Arthur stressed that former President Rawlings would have jailed former Deputy Minister for Local Government, Maxwell Kofi Jumah and others connected to the deal by now unlike the �Asomdwehene� President Mills whose government has decided to negotiate with African Automobile to reduce the amount by 30%. But Maxwell Kofi Jumah, who is also the MP for Asokwa rejected Mr. Arthur�s claims and accused the NDC of gargantuan stealing. He said the fact that government is making frantic attempts to renegotiate outside the court, is an indication of a grand scheme involving government officials to steal from the state. He stated that the $8 million out of the $17 million paid so far to AAL was paid by the NDC government after it assumed office in 2009. He questioned why AAL never made any claims during the NPP�s tenure and stated that both the company and the NDC have connived to dupe Ghana and are only making accusations against the NPP as a cover up. Kofi Jumah called for psychotherapy for anyone attempting to justify the AAL�s claim and called for the arrest of all those involved in the negotiation and payment of the money. He said these are the cases that Bureau of National Investigation should be focusing on instead of the cases they have been involved in, in the past. The NPP Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa, Amankwah Asiamah called on civil society organisations to intervene in these types of cases to retrieve the monies lost by the state and asked politicians not to look and allow the state to suffer. He also called for an inquiry into the deal adding that only the NPP can save the nation from the deception and theft by the ruling NDC government.
