Al-Ain marksman Asamoah Gyan, under his boxing syndicate, Baby Jet Promotions, has succeeded in pitting George Ashie against Emmanuel Tagoe after six years of fruitless attempts to put the two in the ring.
And on November 11, Ashie, the National Super Featherweight Champion will cross swords with Tagoe, Intercontinental Super Featherweight Champion, at a yet-to-be-announced venue.
The duo last Friday evening at the Alisa Hotel put pen to paper, by way of a contract, for the fight the Ghana boxing fraternity has been yearning for.
Many have described the clash as Ghana�s version of Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquaio showdown, and the two boxers� moods at the pre-match press conference showed that it would be an uncompromising duel.
Former World champion Joshua Clottey presented part payments of their purses to both boxers. Failure to turn up for the �big-do� according to the contract, will attract damages that is five times the purse.
As usual, both camps traded some bragging to set the stage for the anticipated big fight.
The promoter, Asamoah Gyan, revealed that his passion for the sport was what drove him to put the much-awaited fight together.
�I love boxing, it has always been my passion from infancy. I retire from training and watch boxing most of the time,� he said in an interview.
�I am also doing this because I have realized the sport is taking a nosedive. I am doing this as my social responsibility, at the same time to support the sport,� Gyan, an ardent fan of Mayweather, added.
On the bill are supporting bouts by yet-to-be-named boxers and musical performances to spice up the evening.
