Banks Reject New Voters ID

Information reaching the New Ghanaian Voice newspaper indicates that some Banks and Financial Institutions in the country reject the new Voters ID Cards when their clients use it for identification purposes. A victim explained that after the new biometric voters registration exercise, most people went home believing that the new voter ID card replaced the old one. As such there is no need to carry the two ID cards along. But when he went to Madina Prudential Bank to withdraw some money using the new Biometric Voter ID card, he was denied the money because of that. He had to go back home to fetch the old ID card to enable him cash his money. Another victim, Mr. Agyenim also complained bitterly and pointed out that as a result of the new Voter ID, card most people had either misplaced or lost their cards. He then wondered why they had taken the trouble to acquire the new Biometric voter Cards. In an interview with a cross section of people in Madina, it came to light that it is not only the Financial Institutions who are behaving in this manner; Telecommunication Centers also demand the old ID Cards before one can register a SIM card. EC Officials nned to educate the public on this.
