Mills Discriminating Against Eastern Region

The Eastern Region New Patriotic Party, says it is dismayed by the way the Mills-Mahama led NDC government has turned its back on the region and has virtually halted all projects in the region, with particular emphasis on roads. Frank Annor-Dompreh, the NPP regional organizer in a press release, stated that the people of the eastern region are yet to fathom why the Mills government after almost three and a half years in power, will abandon a major road like the Nsawam-Suhum stretch with the excuse that there were no funds, but will go ahead and pay huge judgment debts. When the same government makes a choice to pay GH364 million to three entities- Woyome, Waterville and CP without any reasonable basis, can they say they have no money to construct this road? Indeed President Mills told Ghanaians when he met the Press that the bad nature of the Accra-Kumasi highway, particularly the Nsawam-Suhum stretch, made him bow his head in sympathy with motorists who ply that stretch of road. One would have hoped that after making this public declaration, he would have fixed the road. But no! His administration has superintended over its deterioration. The release further stated that other major roads like the Suhum-Asamankese road, which President Mills broke grounds for its commission on July 6, 2012 is yet to be completed. Frank Annor-Dompreh continued that, Barely one year after President Mills commissioned the GH10.9 million Koforidua/Oyoko bypass, the road has become immotorable as a result of craters and gullies having developed on the highway. The 9-kilometre stretch of road constructed by the China Water and Electric Company is one of the unprecedented achievements listed in the NDC's green book and was even deserving of mention in President Mills' 2012 state of the nation address. According to the release, the people of the region believe the President is deliberately ignoring the eastern region because the region does not vote favourably for the NDC in elections and asked if the President was indeed a father for all? Touching on the numerous judgment debts that has been paid to NDC members and cronies, to the neglect of important projects such as the Nsawam-Suhum road, the release wondered that when a government opts to pay within one year over $450 million in judgment debts to NDC members, functionaries and cronies and watch the Nsawam-Suhum road to deteriorate so badly, can such a government be said to have the interest of the people of the Eastern Region at heart? Furthermore, the release noted that the three and half year rule of the Mills-Mahama led NDC administration has been characterized by weak leadership, hypocrisy, lies, propaganda and broken promises. President Mills has been the worst performing constitutional President Ghana has had. He has failed us as a country and has failed Ghanaians. We cannot afford to waste another four years under this Mills-Mahama administration. Another four years for President Mills and the NDC would mean endangering the future of the youth, the continued depreciation of the cedi, growing culture of impunity and corruption and the continued collapse of businesses across every part of the country. The release cautioned. However, it assured the electorates especially the eastern region populace that all was not lost and they have a chance to change the incompetent NDC government and replace it with the NPP with Nana Addo as the leader. Nana Akufo-Addo has prioritised education and will make senior high school free. The development of the intellectual capacity of the Ghanaian is one way we can build our nation. Nana Addo has a vision to structurally transform the economy of Ghana from one of a raw material exporting one to an industrialised economy , the release said.
