'Buduburam Shelters Not For Sale'

The Ghana Refugee Board is cautioning Liberian refugees repatriating to Liberia to desist from selling shelters they inhabited while residing in the country. Most Liberian refugees in Ghana are being repatriated to Liberia due to the invocation of the Cessation clause. According to the Board, it has noticed some refugees are unjustifiably laying claims of ownership to various pieces of land within the Buduburam settlement. Speaking to Citi News, the Chairman of the Ghana Refugee Board, Kenneth Dzirasah said any refugee found culpable would be punished. He said, Those who were in shelters that had been provided by the Ghana Refugee Board are under obligation to hand them over when they leave. So we want to caution them that they do not own property in Ghana and they ought to vacate those premises. Mr. Dzirasah however noted that government has not taken a decision as to what to do with the shelters and the Buduburam land itself.
