Kwasi Nyantakyi has re-defended the Ghana FA�s decision to accept Asamoah Gyan back into the Black Stars fold in response to his former boss� critic on the matter. There have been varying reactions since news broke on the return of the Al Ain striker from a self-imposed �break� after the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. The �temporary retirement� according to the 26-year-old was to afford him to properly recover from the trauma associated with missing two crucial penalty kicks in two major tournaments. But many including former Ghana FA boss Nyaho Tamakloe believe it is just a weak excuse to �abandon� the Black Stars and that such a player should certainly not be be given a red carpet welcome. But Nyantakyi who succeeded Tamakloe as Ghana FA boss begs to differ after his administration hailed and threw its full support to Gyan�s decision to return. �I believe the circumstances under which Asamoah Gyan proceeded on a break is quite different. There is no bad precedence being set,� he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM. �His (Gyan) situation could be related to an injury. He suffered psychological injury after the 2012 Nations Cup. �Therefore I think the reactions we are getting is probably informed by misconception rather than a thorough appraisal of the matter at hand. �I don�t know why he (Tamakloe) is reacting that way but we as an FA believe in the position we have taken with respect to Asamoah Gyan and we urge all to support the player on his return.� Gyan has led the Black Stars to many high-points notably his classic goal against the USA which saw Ghana progress to the quarter final stage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He has however induced probably the lowest lows in Ghana football after missing two crucial penalty kicks against Uruguay and Zambia at the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Nations Cup which denied Ghana an historic semi final berth and a Nations Cup final respectively.
