The Ghana National Gas Company, Ghana Gas, has started paying compensation to owners of 166 farms which were destroyed during boundary demarcation in the Domonli areas in the Jomoro district of the Western Region.
Ghana Gas is mandated to build, owned and operate infrastructure required for gathering, processing, transporting and marketing of Ghana�s gas resources.
It also has the responsibility of providing fuel for industry whiles functioning as a catalyst for the downstream petrochemical industry.
In pursuit of these, Ghana gas undertook boundary demarcation and topographical survey of the land for the proposed projects.
In the process, some cassava, coconut, oil palm and mango farms were destroyed.
However, payments of compensation to the affected farmers delayed due to the processes involved in the valuation of economic crops destroyed.
In other to mitigate the effects, Chief Executive of Ghana Gas, Dr George Sipa Yankey, announced a 20% increase in the compensation value of cocoa.
He also assured all affected farmers that the compensation will conform to international standards.
