A 27-year old galamsey operator has allegedly murdered his pregnant girlfriend after luring her for a swim in a river at Adiembra in the Adansi North District in the Ashanti Region last Thursday. The suspect, Yaw Kyei, fled, but called the deceased�s father, who lived in another village, on his cell phone and directed him to go to the bank of the River Atentem for his daughter�s body. Initially, the man never believed what the suspect told him but when he proceeded to the area, with the support of the Unit Committee members of Adiembra, the naked body of his daughter, who was two-month pregnant, was found on the bank of the river, with multiple cuts all over the body. The incident threw the community into a state of shock, as some residents claimed they had seen Kyei and his girlfriend walking together earlier in the day. Briefing the Daily Graphic, the deceased�s father, Akwasi Boateng, said his late daughter, Yaa Akyamaa, lived at Pipiiso, while the suspect was resident at Adiembra. Kyei befriended Akyamaa, who was a farmer, about two years ago and the two used to exchange visits. Boateng said on Thursday morning, Kyei went to Pipiiso, where the girlfriend cooked for him. Without the notice of her parents, Akyamaa travelled with Kyei to Adiembra in the afternoon. According to Boateng, later in the evening he had a call from Kyei that he (Kyei) had killed Akyamaa and that he should go for the body, since he had reported himself to the police in Kumasi. The father stated that he did not believe the message until one of his children also called to inform him that Kyei ghad delivered the same messae to him on phone. Boateng proceeded to Adiembra, where he informed the Unit Committee chairman and together they went to the riverside, where the body was discovered about 10 pm. The body spotted cuts on the neck, chest, chin and left hand. Neighbours at Adiembra said they had seen Kyei and Akyamaa walking to the riverside in the evening. According to them, the man used to go to the river with the girlfriend to swim. The police at Hweremoase were informed and the body was conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue. When contacted, the Fomena District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Mr. Daniel Anane Amoah, confirmed the story and said the police were pursuing the suspect.
