Political Parties Brace Themselves Up To Contest 45 New Constituencies To Be Created

Political parties are bracing themselves up to contest the 45 new constituencies to be created. Although the NPP and CPP have faulted the EC for rushing the Constitutional Instrument that will legalise the creation, they say they will organise themselves as early as possible to contest the elections. Speaking on our Current Affairs Programme, Behind The News, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, George Lawson, noted that his party has already set a date for election of Parliamentary Candidates in these Constituencies so that the NDC will not be caught unawares when the bill is finally passed. The Second National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Fred Oware, said the party has no choice but to contest when the C I becomes operational. He was optimistic that the NPP will win the December polls. For his part the Director of Communications of the Convention Peoples Party, CPP, Nii Armah Akomfrah, questioned the rationale behind creating 45 new Constituencies three months to the elections. He said now that the CI has been laid in Parliament, the CPP will strategise to put in place offices and executives. The flagbearer of the Progressive Peoples Party, PPP, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, also raised issues with how the CI was laid.
