Ghana U-20 Ladies beat Nigeria in friendly

The national U-20 womens team, the Black Princesses posited a 3-2 win over their Nigerian counterparts in an international friendly at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday. The friendly, a preparatory game for the continents representatives for the 2012 FIFA U-20 Womens World Cup scheduled for Japan next month, was keenly contested with both sides exhibiting their readiness for the global championship. The Princesses led by two goals at half time thanks to a brace from striker Florence Dadson. The Robert Morris University student scored the opener on seven minutes before blasting home the second goal on the stroke of half time. The Nigerians, losing finalists at the last edition of the FIFA U-20 Womens World Cup in Germany two years ago, were a pale shadow of themselves as their attacking trio of Desire Oparanozie, Ebere Orji and Esther Sunday were kept at bay by the Ghanaian defence which revolved around Rosemary Ampem, Cynthia Boakye and Janet Agyir. The Falconets resumed the second half strongly and within a minute, Sunday reduced the deficit when she capitalized on a blunder by the Ghanaian rear. Just as the Nigerians were warming themselves into the game, midfielder Elizabeth Addo scored the third goal on 72 minutes for the Princesses with a spectacular volley which beat the Nigerian goalie Aluko Bidemi. Four minutes later, Oparanozie grabbed the consolatory goal for the Nigerians, who are on a training camp in Accra. The two teams are scheduled to meet again on Thursday, July 26 at the same venue.
