Former President Rawlings has apologized for comments made in the wake of President Mills� death stating that no ill motive was intended in the comments. Former President Rawlings in an interview with BBC after the death of President Mills stated that President Mills� death could have been avoided if he had done something wiser. His comments drew widespread condemnation from members of the NDC and a cross section of the public. The family of the late President Mills on Friday also issued a strongly worded statement condemning the comments by Mr. Rawlings describing them as �derogatory and uncouth insults�. The statement signed by Abusuapanyin Nkuma-Kyerba Twidan on behalf of the family said �Our Son died in a bed, at peace with himself, and with dignity in the eyes of equally well-thinking men. Such a kind fate may not befall those tempted to stride the world as rabble-rousing tin-gods.� The family added that they had had enough of the constant attack on the person of the late President Mills whose only fault, according to them, was seeking to serve his country. But the office of the former President in a quick reaction stated that it regrets the comments by Mr. Rawlings adding that Mr. Rawlings still retains a healthy respect for the contributions that President Mills made to the country of Ghana and the NDC party.
