Gas Shortage Hits Tema

TEMA METROPOLIS has been hit with acute shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), leading to long winding queues at most gas stations in the area. Some households within the metropolis have resorted to the use of charcoal while vehicles that use gas as fuel have been compelled to park. A visit to some gas stations in Ashaiman and Tema by Daily Guide GUIDE showed long queues comprising domestic and motor users who were waiting to buy the petroleum product. At some of the gas filling stations, such as Central Gas Filling Station in Ashaiman, and Kaysens Gas Filling Station in Tema, management explained that disappointed taxi drivers whose cars used gas had parked their vehicles on their premises for over a week due to the shortage of LPG. They said there had been no LPG for about two weeks, forcing consumers to return home with their empty cylinders. Most commercial drivers who spoke with Daily Guide during a visit to some fuel stations in Tema expressed their frustration about the shortage. We have parked our vehicles for about 10 days because of the shortage of gas in the system. They said they travelled to some fuel stations in Dawhenya, Tema Community 9, Ashaiman Central Gas Filling Station and Accra in search of gas but their trips were fruitless. We have exhausted the little gas in our cars in search of more but there was no gas wherever we have been. Fast food vendors at Tema told Daily Guide that the scarcity of LPG had affected their work, compelling them to cook less food since they did not have adequate gas to prepare the usual quantity of food for their customers.
