The only known son of late President John Evans Atta Mills, Sam Kofi Atta Mills, has expressed strong reservations that he was not allowed to lay a wreath by his father�s grave, the Publisher newspaper has been told by a source close to him. �We were with him just two days to the funeral when he had a call from National Security that they wanted him, so he showed them where he was and they came for him. They said he would be reading a tribute during the funeral at the Independence Square so he was to rehearse and get used to the protocol arrangements. He even continued the rehearsals on the very day of the funeral and was really looking forward to it but for some strange reasons, he was not allowed to read it. Again he had ordered a wreath knowing very well that as the man�s only son, it was fair and proper that he lays a wreath but again he was shocked that he was not allowed to do that. He had to take it home after the funeral,� a relation of the son told the Publisher. On Friday, night Samuel Kofi Atta Mills, was said have called his friends and relations, mostly from his mothers side and held a very private but touching funeral service at his residence near Roman Ridge in Accra. Eye witness say no government official was present at the event as they were apparently unsure of what their presence would be translated to mean. Another noticeable surprise was that during the funeral service at the Asomdwee park, Samuel Kofi Atta Mills was not with his step-mother, Dr. Ernestina Naadu Mills, but was rather with the First Lady, Lordina Mahama. Indeed, Samuel Kofi Atta Mills had not associated with the home in which his late dad stayed with Naadu. The boy was literally kept out of the public eye until the death of his dad. The very first time he was showcased to Ghanaians was when the mortal remains of his late dad was being transported from the morgue of the 37 Military Hospital and then to the Osu Castle enroute to the State House. On that same day, Sam Kofi Atta Mills� mother was the first time seen with her son in public. The mother, Mrs Portia Awuku was seen in mourning attire standing by his son. Apart from that she was not part of the funeral ceremony in anyway. Though little is known of Sam Kofi Atta Mills, reports say he became very attached to his father and the two were often seen together at the Castle especially in the dying days of the late President.
