The National Democratic Congress has asked its supporters to ignore the latest statement issued by former Attorney-General, Martin Amidu, over the party�s selection of President John Mahama as its flagbearer. In his statement, Mr. Amidu has raised constitutional issues over the National Executive Committee�s decision to make President Mahama the party�s candidate without opening up the contest. According to him, the decision is a breach of the party and the country�s constitutions and will cause dissatisfaction among members. However, the Propaganda Secretary of the ruling party, Richard Quarshigah, insists that the party did no wrong. He said: �I do not know what he means by this is unconstitutional because as far as we are concerned, we�ve worked and done everything in consonance with the NDC constitution. He made reference to Article 26 (1) and that is what it is and the kind of decision we took at NEC is also in line with Article 50 of our constitution.� With this explanation, he added that �Martin Amidu�s understanding of the issues may be displaced and probably he is also not looking at the current constitution that we have.� Mr. Quarshigah also mentioned that the former principal legal advisor of the government is gradually becoming irrelevant to the country�s politics. �Unfortunately, it is becoming characteristic of Martin Amidu to criticise the NDC so much that you wonder if indeed he is a member of the party because of the manner in which he does everything regarding the NDC as an institution,� he opined. Mr. Quarshigah advised Mr. Amidu to �re-look at his position carefully. Besides, if there are concerns that a member of the party wants to raise, there are procedures to follow; you don�t do that by radio.�
