BNI Summoned In Court Over Arrest Of Ivorian Ex-Minister

Lawyers for ex-Ivorian minister, Mr. Kone Katinan Justin, have secured a habeas corpus writ to compel the Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to produce their client in court on Friday. Mr. Justin was arrested on Friday by national security operatives based on an arrest warrant issued by Ivorian authorities. His lawyer Patrick Sogbojor who secured the habeas corpus from a Human Rights Court on Tuesday told Citi News he expects his client to be bailed by Friday. Justin holds a refugee card from the Ghana Refugee Board which is also recognized by the UNHCR. He was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on his return to Ghana from South Africa. President John Dramani Mahama in accordance with the Ghanaian Constitution has since asked the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to study the extradition instruments and advice accordingly.
