I Deliver On My Promises - Prez Mahama

The President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, says his administration is action-oriented, since it delivers on its promises to the people of Ghana. For instance, he said, the government had secured funding from China for the construction of the Cape Coast Stadium and the Kotokuraba Market in Cape Coast. He said the advanced team of consultants from China was already on site doing some feasibility studies on the two projects. President Mahama was speaking at the Fetu Afahye festival of the chiefs and people of the Oguaa Traditional Area in Cape Coast on Saturday. This years festival, which was held on the theme: The Role of the Asafo Companies: The Past, the Presence and the Future, at the Jubilee Park, was attended by representatives of the various political parties and some tourists. The President said the Chinese government released the grant for the construction of the Cape Coast Stadium in memory of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who initiated moves for the construction of the stadium. He introduced the Chinese consultants at the durbar ground and indicated that he did not make empty promises. Whenever I say I will throw a stone at you, then my foot is on a stone, President Mahama said. He affirmed his commitment to improve infrastructure and the living standards of the people of the Central Region, saying that the Central Region needs not to be poor. We will work with you to develop the region. President Mahama urged chiefs to impress on their people to give premium to formal education and technical and vocational skills. He stressed that the development of the country depended on the skills of the countrys human resource. It was in response to that the government had shifted the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) from a job creation programme to a skills empowerment programme, he said. On the forthcoming election, the President asked Ghanaians to conduct themselves peacefully to maintain the prevailing peace before, during and after the election. He specifically commended the people of the Central Region for maintaining peace in the region and asked them to keep it up. President Mahama urged the youth not to allow themselves to be used as thugs by selfish politicians to visit mayhem on their perceived political opponents. Abstain from tendencies that can push us into commotion and conflict, he stressed. Osabarimba Kwesi Atta, the Paramount Chief of the Cape Coast Traditional area, said God had placed President Mahama at the presidency for a purpose and urged him to seek the purpose and accomplish it. The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, thanked the people for the peace in the city of Cape Coast and urged them to accept President Mahama to enable him to achieve his vision for the country. The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast, Mr Ebo Barton Odro, used the opportunity to present 106 scholarships to needy people in the area. President Mahama later cut the tape to commemorate the naming of the road from the Cape Coast Castle to the Mfantsipim School Junction after the late president John Evans Atta Mills.
