Court Rejects DSP Tehodas Reinstatement Application

A Human Rights High Court in Accra has rejected the application for reinstatement of DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda into the Police Service on procedural grounds. DSP Tehoda was discharged three months ago for lack of evidence in the cocaine-turned-baking soda case. Prior to her discharge, the Police Service had interdicted her, stripping her of her position as the Deputy Head of the Commercial Crimes Unit of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID). She contested this in court but the trial judge, Justice Essel Mensah, threw out the case on Tuesday citing procedural errors. However, lawyer for the embattled policewoman, E.A Voduagbo told Citi News he will amend the application and head back to court. He said: They have asked for an opportunity to re-organize the motion paper to make the complaint visible. According to lawyer Voduagbo, the right of his client as stated in article 23 of the 1992 Constitution has been infringed upon. He said the interdiction of his client and the hurried manner that a service enquiry was constituted at the time when the matter was in court makes it unfair and illegal.
