Akufo-Addo: We'll Meet Mahama, But...

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has lauded President John Dramani Mahamas initiative to meet the leadership of the opposition ahead of the elections, but insists that should not be just a talk shop. President Mahama at a breakfast meeting on Tuesday announced that he will be meeting the opposition this month on issues of national concerns, and hopes to make it a bi-annual event when he receives the nod of Ghanaians after the December elections. Nana Addo said the occasion should not be used as political gimmick, but must be an event to iron out pressing national issues with concrete steps to address them. He said although he is ready to participate in such meeting, President Mahamas constant drum for peace has been over stretched and it is about time he walked his talk. There are concrete measures that we have to address, Akufo-Addo said. We are yet to hear any sense of remorse or regret about the incident that took place at Agbogbloshie which led to some deaths, in Akwatia six polling station elections led to violence, we saw same in Tamale and our activists were brutalized and the police did nothing about it. Those are the kind of bridge building measures that we want to see in Ghana and this will give meaning to our quest for peaceful and transparent elections, he added.
