Ghana Will Pass 2012 Election Test - Prez Mahama

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has assured the Ghanaian community in Nigeria of peaceful elections in December. Addressing Ghanaians living in Nigeria during his Thank You tour of the West African country on Friday, he said: I can assure you that Ghana will pass the test. Often before elections, politicians including myself have the tendency to ratchet up the political temperature. He said: Following activities in Ghana, one will think its a nation that is just about to break into open warfare, but be rest assured that weve done this five times already and this years will not be different from all the previous successful elections organized. There will be peace before, during and after the elections. The President also told the gathering that the economy of the nation is going well. According to him, the last figures he saw for the month of July show that there is clear indication that Ghanas economy has grown by 8.7% in the non-oil sector alone. President Mahama also met with the Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, where they discussed security issues within the sub-region. He and his Nigerian counterpart discussed security within the West African sub-region and how to cooperate to ensure that the sub-region is safe, stable and secure so as to continue to pursue integration and economic cooperation. President Mahama has been visiting some West African countries to express his gratitude to the Heads of State of these countries for their support and love during President John Evans Atta Mills funeral on August 10. President Mahama is expected to take his thank you tour to Benin on Friday.
