"NDC Should Name A Running Mate Now"

A political scientist at the University of Ghana, Legon has advised the NDC against the delay in announcing its running mate for the December polls. According to him, the ruling party may suffer unduly if it does not name a running mate as soon as possible. With two months to the general elections, the party is yet to announce who will partner President John Mahama in the December elections. The party at its special delegates congress last month indicated it will announce a running mate sometime in September. Speaking to Citi News Dr. Seidu Alidu said the NPPs running mate is already campaigning and it is important the NDCs running mate does same. The choice of the running mate plays a very significant role in deciding your opportunities in the general elections. Because of this a lot of political parties select their running mates very early so that they will be able to use the element that will support the flagbearer, he said. Dr. Alidu added: The NDC is the party in power and is also struggling with the NPP to win votes; you also see that Dr. Bawumia is using his contribution to the tickets very wisely and hammering what he can bring to the table and I think that its high time the ruling NDC also named its running mate. All things being equal the NDC will name the current vice president as the partys running mate because it will be politically unwise for them to change the running mate and leave the vice president sitting down like that, he advised.
