A SUSPECTED thief believed to be in his early 20s has been lynched on the Akosombo highway near the 1st Battalion of Infantry Base, Michel Camp, by unknown persons, in rather a horrible manner. The deceased, who could not be immediately identified by residents, was tied with electric wire to a Neem tree with fractured legs and multiple wounds on most parts of his lifeless body. He was said to have been found earlier by a resident who raised an alarm to draw others to the scene. The deceaseds arms and legs were fastened backwards around the tree which was situated within the Sebrepor Electoral Area of the Kpone-Katamanso District. The assailants used the electric wire to tie his manhood to a wooden placard, and then extended the wire to a bicycle found close to the body, after brutalizing him. When Daily Guide arrived at the scene around 6:20am Thursday morning, scores of people had trooped to the place to catch a glimpse of the deceased, with some heaping curses on him, as they described him as a notorious thief. He was suspected to have been lynched elsewhere by his assailants, and finally fastened to the tree before his death. He was found naked with bruises on his head, with his clothes also around him. Charles Dubin, assemblyman for the area, complained about the trend of stealing in the area, noting that this might have angered some of the youth, for which they killed the deceased. He pleaded with residents, especially the youth, to desist from carrying out instant justice on suspects, urging them to instead arrest and hand them over to the police for proper investigations. According to him, this would go a long way to help the police in their work, when cases of that nature are reported, as it might also help to pursue and arrest other accomplices. As at the time Daily Guide was leaving the scene, the police were yet to arrive to conduct investigations so the body could be conveyed to the morgue for an autopsy.
