Hon. Kan Dapaah Robbed At Gun-Point

The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Afigya Sekyere West, Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah was robbed at gun-point on Tuesday, September 25 at his Dansoman residence. The PAC Chairman had returned home after appearing on Metro TV's Good Evening Ghana program which was telecast live from Parliament house when three armed men attacked him. Recounting the incident in an interview on Okay FMs Ade Akye Abia Morning show, Hon Kan Dapaah disclosed that he got home at about 11:15pm and as soon as he parked his car, three muscular armed men ambushed him. According to him, the armed robbers then asked him to lead them to his bedroom, ransack the place and made away with a laptop and some other personal items. The armed robbers, he said, later riddled his vehicle with bullets. Mr. Dapaah however stated that the armed robbers did not harm him or any member of his family. "...the robbers did not enter any other bedroom apart from mine bedroom even though my children were asleep in the other rooms...Kwami, i'm sure the armed robbers know me because they kept mentioning my name...one of he armed robbers said to me openly that i'm lucky he knows me on TV and that he likes me very much otherwise..., he narrated. The PAC Chairman revealed that the armed robbers spent between 20 to 30 minutes in his house and seemed not to be in a hurry to leave which he found quite intriguing. He further stated that even though he is shaken by the events of last night, he does not suspect any political hand at the moment. Asked if he has drawn the attention of the police to the incident, the former Defence Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor administration said the National Security Coordinator, Gbevlo Lartey detailed some security officials to his residence after a good samaritan reached him on phone. "...the IGP, Paul Tawiah Quaye also called to find out about the incident..., Kan Dapaah added. The Afigya Sekyere West MP becomes the second legislator to be attacked by robbers in less than a week. Last Friday the MP for Chereponi, Hon. Samuel Abdulai Djabanyite, was also attacked at gunpoint in the Northern region, but he managed to flee from the highway robbers. The burglars, however, succeeded in robbing occupants of other vehicles following his Ford Expedition, including that of the District Chief Executive. Hon. Kan Dapaah has been in the public eye in recent times after his controversial encounters with current and former government officials at the PAC. What remains unclear is whether the robbery attack is linked to any of his pronouncements as Chairman of PAC.
