The rank and file of the National Democratic Party (NDP) are still awaiting a response from a former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, to bear the flag of the party in the December 2012 elections. A source close to the NDP told graphic.com.gh in Accra Tuesdayy that the members of the party were hopeful the former First Lady would soon break her silence on the matter. According to the source, the youth of the party, especially those at the grass roots, were rooting for Nana Konadu to lead the NDP into the December general election. The former First Lady had been linked to a political party being an off-shoot of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), even long before the NDP was unveiled a couple of months ago. This followed the deterioration of relations and cordiality between the NDC and the former First Couple. Nonetheless, leading members of the NDP have often parried speculations on the link between the party and the former First Lady until recently when they admitted that they had invited her to bear the party�s flag for Election 2012. A new wave of speculation hitting the media landscape is about Nana Konadu quitting the NDC anytime soon to accept the invitation to become the flag bearer of the NDP. The media speculation stems from the extension of the period for the filing of nomination for the party�s presidential slot which was announced by its interim National Chairman, Dr Nii Armah Josiah Ayeh. According to an activist of the NDP, Mr Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the decision whether to quit the NDC or not rested solely with Nana Konadu, adding that at the appropriate time she would make her decision known to the public. He expressed the hope that the former First Lady would give a positive response to the invitation extended to her by the NDP. Mr Owusu-Bempah said members of the NDP would continue to impress upon Nana Konadu to pick and run with the NDP flag in the December elections.
