When Will The NPP Get Serious? - Fifi Kwetey

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has hit back at the New Patriotic Party and its flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, describing their campaign message of transforming the nation's economy as mere talk and not backed by a credible track record. According to the Deputy Minister of Finance, Fifi Kwetey, who addressed the party's 'Forum for Setting the Record Straight', any political party can make promises but noted that what is important is how they can fulfill those promises. The NPP at a press conference on Tuesday cautioned Ghanaians to refrain from voting for a John Dramani Mahama-led government because per its analysis of the political atmosphere, Ghanaians will be voting for a corrupt and indecisive government. The NPP cited the failed promises of projects such as the Tamale Airport, the construction of stadia and other social relief initiatives and noted that the NDC government's rule was one riddled with gargantuan fraud and a careless disregard for the use of public funds. Speaking under the title: 'NDC - A credible party with a credible track record that Ghana can trust', Hon. Kwetey concentrated on the NPP's promise of economic transformation saying that the main opposition merely boasted they will transform Ghana into a Brazil-form economy when given a four-year mandate. According to him, the NPP track record and comments of party executives, however, prove something completely different. Hon. Kwetey cited comments of NPP Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey on a local radio station where he allegedly announced that "you cannot transform an economy in eight years". In his opinion this was a clear example of the "NPP's typical strategy of employing deceptions. The Deputy Minister of Finance also questioned the NPP's record in its eight years in office saying: 1. The NDC had been able to increase supply of electricity by 18% which was twice what the NPP did, 2. Despite borrowing some 750 million dollars, the NPP did not have any infrastructure to show as evidence as compared to the 850 million Gas project currently being undertaken by NDC government, 3. The NPP had collapsed the cotton, fishing and even Presidential special initiatives while the NDC had procured 140 new combined harvestors compared to four by NPP in three years. Hon. Kwetey cautioned the NPP to open their eyes and see the development across the country, adding that Ghanaians were clamouring for even more. He also questioned the choice of Dr. Bawumia as the "key person" to pilot NPP's economic transformation agenda describing him as "the same person who not once but twice was key in leading the NPP government to pursue phantom hair dressing saloon loans, the IFC 419 facility and the CNTC CI 419 facility. Hon. Kwetey said: How safe is Ghana when the economic transformation dream of the NPP is being piloted by a man who knows not the difference between a 419 facility and a genuine loan. It does not take our running mate, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur and the NDC economic team even two minutes to detect this 419 facility, yet NPP is taking about economic transformation and touting Bawumia as the pivot of that plan. When will the NPP get serious?
