The youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kotingli Electoral Area of the Tamale South Constituency has apologized to its Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Haruna Iddrisu for embarking on a demonstration against him over a development issue. On September 16, 2012, the youth wing of the NDC in the Kotingli Electoral Area embarked on a demonstration through some communities of the Tamale South Constituency to protest against the MP, who is also the Minister of Communications, for not connecting the area to the national electricity grid. However, the youth group had dramatically turned around and issued an apology, which was contained in a press statement signed by its Chairman, Abdulai Alhassan and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Friday. The statement said "We the youth of the NDC in the Kotingli Electoral Area of the Tamale South Constituency wish to express our sincere apology to our MP and Minister of Communications Lawyer Haruna Iddrisu for demonstrating against him over a development concern." It said "We wish to state that the motivation behind our recent demonstration against Mr Iddrisu was due to lack of information regarding the sharing of the development cake to constituents of Tamale South." It said "We have come to realize that our MP is even doing more for us but to the blind side of our eyes or due to lack of information as stated earlier." It said "After the unfortunate demonstration, which was also amplified through media reportage, the Tamale South Constituency office of the NDC has revealed to us the numerous development projects that had been embarked on by our MP over the last four years, some of them completed and some about to be completed." It mentioned some of the projects as the construction of six-unit classroom blocks each at Jarugu, Dohini, Fooshegu, Datoyili and Adobiliyili, as well as extension of electricity to Wamale and Pagazaa, Fooshegu and their environs. The ongoing projects include electrification in Tua, Baliga, Baliga-Dakpemyili, Young, Kakpayili and their environs. The statement said "In the case of Kotingli, we the youth have concrete evidence that our MP has supported various women with financial capital estimated at GHc8,000,00 to set up small scale businesses to improve their living conditions." It added that "Besides, he has constructed culverts and re -graveled the Dohini-Manguli-Kukuo road networks to make them motorable." It said "We have also been informed that plans are far advanced to extend electricity to our community (Kotingli)." The youth group, therefore, expressed their commitment to renew their pledge �to support him wholeheartedly in the upcoming December 7, 2012 elections by campaigning for him and the President, John Mahama".
